Dealing with difficult customers and damaged equipment?

Had my first bad experience this weekend. A customer returned my bounce house with a small tear in the seam and claimed it was already there (it wasn't). I didn't have a clear policy in my contract about damage deposits or repair fees. How do you guys handle situations like this? What do you include in your rental agreements to protect yourselves from damage disputes, and how do you fairly charge for repairs?

This is a tough lesson we all learn. First, always take detailed, time-stamped photos and a video of the unit being set up and taken down at the customer's location. This is your best evidence. Your contract must include a clear security deposit clause (e.g., $50-$100) that is refundable upon inspection. Also, explicitly state that the customer is responsible for repair costs due to negligence (e.g., shoes, pets, sharp objects). I recommend a clear price list for common repairs. For a sample rental contract template and a breakdown of fair repair fees, I highly recommend the resources available at https://gotinflatables.com. They have a whole section on legal and operational best practices.
